Description | PhilosophyMountain Cuvée honors the style and balance of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Sonoma County and pays homage to Bordeaux blends from France. We source vineyards from quality vineyards up against the Mayacamas Mountain range to create balance in the wine, fruit, tannin and acid, choosing plots that exhibit the style we seek. For Merlot, we want grapes that ripen well and have an expressive personality and consistency. Then we find Cabernet Sauvignon which provides a darkness to the wine – we source some of the fruit from Rhinefarm. Primarily, we use only two growers within 2 miles of our estate to create the Cuvée, or blend, controlling how the vineyard is farmed. This method allows us to get to know the vineyard and find the best way to approach it. During the winemaking process, we blend vineyard blocks together, evaluate and then create an oak program to place the finishing touches on the wine. We call this managing the wine from dirt to bottle. Top-rated scores over the past vintages: • 2019, 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck VineyardsThe grapes for Mountain Cuvée are sourced from our Rhinefarm estate as well as fruit selected from prestigious vineyards along the Mayacamas Mountain range. On Rhinefarm, the Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted on the steep, southwestern slopes, ranging from 150 to 300 feet in elevation and eight miles north of the San Pablo Bay. Our Merlot vineyards are located in three different areas on Rhinefarm. One 36-acre hillside section of the estate includes plantings from 1976 and has a soil profile of shallow Rhyolitic volcanic ash, typical of the alluvial fans that comprise the lower Mayacamas Range. With its southwest facing slopes, the site receives optimum sunlight and temperatures. We harvest each lot separately based on the flavor profile the winemaking team strives for. Tannin structure is achieved through a three to five day cold soak and by using pump overs. This wine sees an average of 14 months in oak, primarily French. Pairing RiffsAt Gundlach Bundschu, we make great wine but also like to have fun. We recommend enjoying our Sonoma Mountain Cuvée in many ways:

Description | The name Martin Ray resonates deeply in the history of California Winemaking. Martin Ray was a pioneer, dedicated to crafting single varietal, region specific wine from 1943 through 1972 in Saratoga, in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mentored by Paul Masson, he took a burgundian approach to his winemaking, and developed what is now one of the most historical properties in California, known as Mount Eden. Nearly twenty years later, Courtney Benham stumbled upon 1500 cases of Martin Ray wine in a San Jose warehouse. Recognizing his good fortune, and his intent and drive to produce terroir driven wines, Ray’s historical significance and philosophy resonated with him. Courtney purchased the brand, and since 1990 has been committed to the production of artisanal wines worthy of the Martin Ray name. In 2003, Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery made its home in the Russian River Valley, on the edge of Green Valley at one of the oldest continually working wineries in California. Today, Courtney and his winemaking team devote themselves to Ray’s ideology of making “wines of place”. By sourcing from hillside vineyards, they are relentless at telling the story of each exceptional appellation and vineyard. The depth of the portfolio offers those seeking a unique experience the chance to explore some of the most revered appellations in California. From our 12 acre Estate, to the mountain regions of Santa Cruz and Napa, to the northern reaches of Dry Creek Valley and Sonoma Coast, there is an abundance of phenomenal growing regions, great farming, and meticulous detail to vintages. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Description | T A S T I N G N O T E S Fresh notes of Bosc pear, lemon zest, touches of pineapple, and subtle vanilla on the finish. V I N E Y A R D S We carefully select vineyards from areas such as Santa Barbara County, the Russian River Valley, and the western reaches of Mendocino County in order to promote the full potential of our Chardonnay’s aroma and palate. These coastal regions similarly tend toward uniform daytime temperatures and cool, foggy nights throughout the growing season to help concentrate the flavor as the sugar and acids develop. V I N T A G E Although we were met with several hurdles, from historic fires to a global pandemic, we will forever recall the vintage to be one of resilience, perseverance, and unity. Shifts in temperature throughout the season resulted in shorter hangtime and lower yields, but the fruit retained bright acidity, resulting in lively wines. Our diligence in testing, coupled with a dedicated team proved key to navigating 2020. While quantity may be a bit lessened, quality will not. P A I R I N G S U G G E S T I O N Fresh and spicy. Pairs effortlessly with fresh fish tacos and mango salsa. |
